"Sgt. McKinney had stopped eating, stopped sleeping and become convinced he was not doing enough to keep his soldiers safe. But
even after a soldier found him sitting in a wooden supply shack,
staring emptily into space, even after his face grew gaunt from weight
loss, even after he was unable to form the thoughts necessary to give a
morning briefing, McKinney kept going out on patrol. And that is the part that everyone — soldiers, commanders and family — must now struggle with, each and every day."
Side note
---------------------------------------------------
I posted an article from the Times magazine about America's medicated army with some thoughts about this growing epidemic. To further elaborate on those thoughts, I believe these cases will become more frequent out in the open as the U.S government sells it soul, or what little is left, for the price of innocent civilians and soldiers. If you have ever seen The Good Shepherd with Matt Damon, there is a
scene where they are questioning/torturing a Russian Official seeking
political refuge. In that scene they end giving him LSD as was suppose to be a sort of truth serum. They give it to him and in a moment of clarity he remarks how the U.S needs Russia to be the great evil they made them out to be to advance their industrial-military complex. The interesting thing is, he remarks, that Russia at that time was no real threat, not even a slight chance. As history is doomed to repeat itself, you see U.S foreign policy taking this same route with Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Middle East. Even though U.S soldiers are trained to be robots in the battlefield, when truth, reality in its pureness form, takes shape then the world around them has nowhere to go but to collapse.
